78% of Physicians Say Public Option Would Negatively Impact Health Care

September 30, 2009

78% of physicians polled in a recent survey said that the public option would negatively impact the quality of health care in this country.
Patients First reported:

Sermo.com, an online community for physicians, surveyed 2,566 U.S. Physicians on public options, co-ops and how health care reform might impact care they provide their patients. The results? Physicians overwhelmingly disagree with the current reforms on the table.

When asked if either of the alternatives to private insurance being discussed–a public option and a co-op option–address the real sources of spiraling health care costs, 92 percent of the 2,566 physicians said no. These medical professionals are not content to do nothing; 62 percent said that reforming the health insurance industry is critically important to any effort to reform the current health care system.

Seventy-eight percent believe that a public option would negatively impact the quality of care they can provide their patients. Yesterday’s vote against a public option in the Senate committee may be a temporary setback for the President’s plan. Co-ops, however, are a stepping stone to a public option and are being considered as an alternative; this idea also fails to garner physician support. Sixty-eight percent of the physicians surveyed say a co-op plan would have similarly negative results. Additionally, if health care reform “as currently envisioned” is passed, 47 percent of those surveyed said they would stop accepting insurance or Medicare/Medicaid.

Obama’s "Safe Schools Czar" Expresses Regret for Not Reporting Statutory Rape

September 30, 2009

21 years Later–
Barack Obama’s “safe school’s czar” Kevin Jennings hid pedophilia from authorities. Jennings violated a state law that required him to report the abuse.

Safe Schools Czar Kevin Jennings was a huge Obama supporter last year and was earlier this year promoted to “Safe Schools Czar.”

Jennings spoke to an audience about the incident in a speech he gave in Iowa in 2000.
He did not express any remorse for not reporting the incident to authorities:

Today Jennings expressed regret for the statutory rape that he hid from officials.
21 years later.
Jake Tapper reported:

A senior official of the Department of Education expressed regret today for an incident that happened when he was a young teacher in the late 1980s, saying he should have handled it differently, but that society could benefit from his error.

Kevin Jennings, director of the Department of Education’s Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools and founder of the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN), has been criticized by social conservatives for a passage in his 1994 book “One Teacher In Ten.” At the time, only a few people knew that Jennings, then a 24-year-old teacher at Concord Academy in Concord, Massachusetts, was gay. In the Spring of 1988, a young woman who knew Jennings was gay, brought to his office a high school sophomore whom Jennings called “Brewster” in the book.

As Jennings wrote:

“’Brewster has something he needs to talk with you about,’ she intoned ominously. Brewster squirmed at the prospect of telling, and we sat silently for a short while. On a hunch, I suddenly asked ‘What’s his name?’ Brewster’s eyes widened briefly, and then out spilled a story about his involvement with an older man he had met in Boston. I listened, sympathized, and offered advice. He left my office with a smile on his face that I would see every time I saw him on the campus for the next two years, until he graduated.”

Jennings in 2000 told a GLSEN conference that Brewster told him he “’met someone in the bus station bathroom and I went home with him.’ High school sophomore, 15 years old. That was the only way he knew how to meet gay people. I was a closeted gay teacher, 24 years old, didn’t know what to say, knew I should say something quickly. So I finally, my best friend had just died of AIDS the week before, I looked at Brewster and said, ‘You know, I hope you knew to use a condom.’ He said to me something I will never forget, He said ‘Why should I, my life isn’t worth saving anyway.’”

Two Iranian Activists Killed In Prague- One in Coma

September 30, 2009

Two Radio Farda reporters were killed today in a car wreck in Prague. One other Farda reporter is in a coma after the crash.
Radio Free Europe Radio Liberty reported:

RFE/RL’s Persian-language Service, Radio Farda, is mourning the tragic loss of two of its finest journalists and praying for a third who is in a coma at a Prague hospital following a car accident near the Czech capital yesterday.

Rosa Ajiri, 27, and Amir Zamani-Far, 29, were killed in the early morning when their car was struck by a truck. Mahin Gorji, 43, is in a coma and a fourth passenger, a visiting journalist, was treated and released from the hospital.

Despite their relative youth, Rosa and Amir were widely respected for their courageous and resourceful journalism.

When an Iranian student died in custody during post-election protests in July, Rosa secured an exclusive interview with a friend of Javadifar’s who had seen his body and charged that he had been tortured.

Amir was a highly regarded radio host who was perhaps best-known by listeners for his signature sign-off each day on Radio Farda’s evening news magazine: “I wish you a peaceful night,” he would say in his baritone.

One of the last reports Amir filed was on the fate of jailed journalists in Tehran.

Mahin, who remains in critical condition, was one of Iran’s best-known sports reporters before joining Radio Farda. She covers politics and excels at securing interviews with top Iranian political figures and dissidents.

Stunner. Dems Vote Down ID Requirement for Immigrant Health Care …Update: Reject Stronger Anti-Abortion Language Too

September 30, 2009

They did it again.
Democrats just voted down a photo ID requirement for immigrant health care.
The Hill Blog reported:

Senate Finance Committee Democrats rejected a proposed requirement that immigrants prove their identity with photo identification when signing up for federal healthcare programs.

Finance Committee ranking member Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) said that current law and the healthcare bill under consideration are too lax and leave the door open to illegal immigrants defrauding the government using false or stolen identities to obtain benefits.

Grassley’s amendment was beaten back 10-13 on a party-line vote.

The bill, authored by committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.), would require applicants to verify their names, places of birth and Social Security numbers. In addition, legal immigrants would have to wait five years, as under current law, after obtaining citizenship or legal residency to access federal healthcare benefits such as Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program or receive tax credits or purchase insurance through the exchange created by the legislation.

But the would not require them to show a photo ID, such as a drivers license. Without that requirement, the bill “remains dearly lacking when it comes to identification,” Grassley said. “Frankly, I’m very perplexed as to why anyone would oppose this amendment,” he said.

It looks like Joe Wilson was right all along.
The dem’s health care bill will cover illegal immigrants.

UPDATE: Dems also rejected stronger language against abortion coverage in the bill.

Twisted Lib Says Republicans Want Patients to "Die Quickly" Because They Oppose Nationalized Health Care (Video)

September 30, 2009

Don’t look for the media to say diddly about this nasty attack.
And, don’t look for Speaker Pelosi to scold this liberal representative for his awful and dishonest hate speech.

Partisan fool, Rep. Alan Grayson, said Republicans want patients to “die quickly” on the floor of the US House of Representatives:

Rep. Grayson is not just offensive but he is terribly inaccurate.

Compared to the US countries with nationalized health care see more women die from breast cancer, see more preemie deaths and see hundreds of patients die each year while waiting in line for treatment.
Rep. Grayson was not just offensive… He was wrong.

At least when Republicans accuse the president of lying to Congress, they’re telling the truth.

Sarkozy Sees Obama As Incredibly Naive & Grossly Egotistical

September 30, 2009

Jack Kelly from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette told Greta Van Susteren that Sarkozy is furious with President Obama over his Iran speech and his misguided global disarmament obsession.

French President Sarkozy thinks President Obama is incredibly naive and grossly egotistical. Sarkozy is worried about the Western world with such a flawed president leading America.

There’s a bit of Sarkozy in all of us.

More… Real Clear Politics has more from Jack Kelly on Sarkozy’s thrashing of Obama:

Nicolas Sarkozy was furious with Barack Obama for his adolescent warbling about a world without nuclear weapons at a meeting Mr. Obama chaired of the United Nations Security Council last Thursday (9/24).

“We must never stop until we see the day when nuclear arms have been banished from the face of the earth,” President Obama said.

What infuriated President Sarkozy was that at the time Mr. Obama said those words, Mr. Obama knew the mullahs in Iran had a secret nuclear weapons development site, and he didn’t call them on it.

‘President Obama dreams of a world without weapons…but right in front of us two countries are doing the exact opposite,” Mr. Sarkozy said.

“Iran since 2005 has flouted five Security Council resolutions,” Mr. Sarkozy said. “North Korea has been defying Council resolutions since 1993.”

“What good has proposals for dialogue brought the international community?” he asked rhetorically. “More uranium enrichment and declarations by the leaders of Iran to wipe out a UN member state off the map.”
